Central Mass. Agency on Aging runs programming as part of new center

The Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging is running back-to-school programming starting in August, an initiative part of the Worcester organization’s new Grandparents Raising Grandkids Resource Center.

The resource center was established earlier this year with $1.2 million in federal funding. It officially launched initiatives in May, according to the agency. The center now offers direct services at 15 senior centers. The resource center is working to combat barriers that make accessing support a challenge to grandparents raising grandchildren.

The back-to-school event on Aug. 12 is a celebratory opening event for the resource center and doubles as an opportunity for families to receive school supplies. It will take place at Fuller Park in Worcester.

Resources the center offers include housing and legal support, nutrition guidance, and mental, behavioral, and physical health services. Grandfamilies Community Health Workers from CMAA are active across Central Massachusetts in areas including Worcester, Leominster, and Southbridge, according to the agency’s website.
