Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging, Inc. will tackle the project of creating a new resource center in Worcester for its populations. The Grandparents Raising Grandkids Resource Center will seek to connect grandparent-led households to essential services, including housing, transportation, and translation.

The center will be financed by $1.2 million in federal funding secured by U.S Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) from the end-of-year federal omnibus spending package, according to a Thursday announcement from the McGovern office.

The Worcester-based nonprofit CMAA provides resources to older adults throughout 61 municipalities in Central Massachusetts. The new center will train culturally competent community health workers from diverse backgrounds who will work directly with the grandparents.

CMAA was also a recipient of funding from Fidelity Bank’s 2022 LifeDesign Community Dividend to build out the Grandparents Raising Grandkids program. Fidelity Bank donated a combined $400,000 to 275 nonprofits in Central and Eastern Massachusetts.

“With this support, we will expand the reach of our mission to ensure our seniors have the ability to care for their grandchildren through our Grandparents Raising Grandkids program,” Moses Dixon, president and CEO of CMAA, said in a Wednesday press release from Fidelity.
