Carrier eyes Golden State
Farmington-based Carrier Corp. is ramping up operations in California following an expansion and major purchase announced this week. The heating, air conditioning and refrigeration giant said it would launch a company-operated sales and distribution network in Southern California, slated to be up and running by September. Today the company announced plans to buy E.B. Ward & Co./Valair of Northern California, a longtime distributor of Carrier products. E.B. Ward, which has 140 employees and $150 million in annual sales, serves customers in California and Nevada. Carrier, a subsidiary of Hartford-based United Technologies Corp., already has operations in 20 U.S. states and 170 countries.
