An Enterprise Rent-A-Car has taken the place of the former Red Lantern Chinese restaurant on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester.
Enterprise opened in the new location at 235 Shrewsbury St. on Feb. 27, having moved from a smaller space at 308 Belmont St. Red Lantern, which shared a building with East Side Auto Repair, closed in December 2018.
Enterprise chose the Shrewsbury Street location because it has a larger parking lot and is closer to I-290, giving customers improved accessibility and convenience, said Jade Hubbard, a company spokeswoman.
Red Lantern's closure has been one in a series on Shrewsbury Street in the last year or more.
The adjacent British Beer Co., the previous Coral Seafood space, closed around the same time and is now Mexicali Cantina Grill. Two other Shrewsbury Street restaurants have closed in the past few months: French eatery C'Mondz Restaurant, which opened only about about five months prior, and Japanese steakhouse 7 Nana. Korean restaurant Simjang has closed and is planned to reopen as a taco eatery.
Pepe's Italian restaurant is replacing its Franklin Street location with a Shrewsbury Street building next to La Scala Ristorante and Mac's Diner.
