Cannabis Control Commission conditionally agrees to move into Union Station

Union Station could be the new headquarters for the Cannabis Control Commission.
The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission has begun negotiating the terms of a lease with the City of Worcester to move the agency’s headquarters into Union Station.
Chief Development Office Michael Traynor told WBJ on Thursday the state’s marijuana regulating board has given the city it’s conditional acceptance of a proposal to move its headquarters to the second floor of Union Station.
The CCC in April issued a request for proposals for a 10-year lease of at least 13,400 square feet of office space in Worcester. Union Station appears to have emerged from a list of 10 other entities that submitted bids.
There is about 14,000 square feet of vacant office space on the second floor of the city’s transportation hub to house the agency’s 50 or so employees, Traynor said.
Terms of the lease, including the specs of the build out and the financial terms, still have to be negotiated, Traynor said.
According to the state Division of Capital Asset Management, other sites that submitted bids were the Guaranty Building at 370 Main St., the Commerce Building at 340 Main St., 13 Sudbury St. in a building occupied by the state Department of Transitional Assistance and Department of Children and Families, 10 Chestnut St. in a building occupied by insurer Fallon Health, two locations on New Bond St. in buildings housing other state agencies, and locations at 144 Commercial St. and 324 Clark St.
The agency is also seeking a satellite office in the Boston area, considering four locations in Boston, three in Quincy and three in Malden.
