Business Confidence Slips In June

Massachusetts business owners were more concerned in June about the state of the general economy than the state of their own companies, according to the Associated Industries of Massachusetts.

Business confidence slipped 1.7 points to "neutral" last month, according to AIM's Business Confidence Index.

The only upward movement in the June index was among the company-related sub-indices. The Company Index, which asks companies to assess the positions of their own operations, gained three-tenths of a point, ending at 55. The Employment Index, which tracks hiring outlooks, gained 1.3 points, ending at 53.2.

AIM noted that larger manufacturers were more optimistic than their smaller counterparts, who mostly rely on domestic consumer demand.
