Americans are increasingly looking for ways to cut back and save money, according to the latest results of the Harris Poll.
The poll, which surveyed 2,163 adults between June 13 and 20, found that 67 percent have begun purchasing more generic brands to save money. That's up from 61 percent in February.
Other signs of a more cost-conscious culture include the fact that 43 percent of respondents reported going to the hairdresser or barber less often, up from 38 percent in February.
Restaurants may also notice a shift in behaviors. Forty-six percent of those surveyed said they are bringing their lunch to work rather than buying a midday meal.
The Harris Poll also breaks out its results based on age range. For example, 27 percent of Gen Xers (35- to 46-year-olds) reported cutting back on purchasing their morning coffee, compared to only 19 percent of Echo Boomers (18- to 35-year-olds).
