RP Masiello broke ground on a new biopharma manufacturing facility on Commerce Drive in Northbridge on Wednesday. The 40,000-square-foot project is expected to be completed in late 2024.
In January, Watertown-based EyePoint Pharmaceuticals announced it would use the new facility to develop and produce a treatment for age-related macular degeneration.
EyePoint’s new facility will be customized for its specific development and manufacturing programs. It will include pharmaceutical production suites for clinical supply and commercial scale manufacturing of approved products, plus chemistry and development laboratories and manufacturing support spaces, all built to clean-room standards. The facility will accommodate quality control and quality assurance functions and administrative spaces to support continued growth of EyePoint’s global business, according to a Tuesday press release from RP Masiello.
“Building to the standards of GMP (good manufacturing practice) requires extensive knowledge of the design and operating requirements, plus experience building complex facilities,” David Masiello, president of RP Masiello, said in the press release. “Working closely with EyePoint and the developer, we have assembled an outstanding design, engineering, commissioning, and construction team that will deliver this important building.”
Boylston-based RP Masiello has projects in process and completed around Central Massachusetts. The contractor is constructing two industrial buildings in Sutton for manufacturer UN1F1ED² Global Packaging Group and redeveloping 115 Northeast Cutoff in Worcester into a bioscience facility for Worcester developer Chacharone Properties.
