Watertown-based EyePoint Pharmaceuticals will design and construct a new manufacturing facility in Northbridge focused on development and commercialization of therapeutics for severe eye disorders.
Among EyePoint’s primary developments is EYP-1901, an investigational treatment in clinical trials. The facility will increase and accelerate clinical development and later commercialization of the treatment, according to a Jan. 23 press release from the company.
“This new facility provides us with significant manufacturing capacity to accelerate the clinical development and future commercial production for EYP-1901,” Nancy Lurker, CEO of EyePoint Pharmaceuticals, said in the release.
The new 40,000-square-foot facility is expected to be operational by the second half of 2024, according to the release. The company’s rent obligations will not begin until it has occupied the space.
EyePoint estimates 45 employees will work at the new facility, with plans to expand as operational needs grow, according to a statement from the company.
The landlord for the property is V.E. Properties IX, owned by the Osterman family in Northbridge.
