Bonuses help personal income grow

The U.S. Commerce Department reported that personal income increased $108.1 billion, or 1.0 percent, in January, the biggest gain in a year.

The income total was helped by bonus payments and gains on the exercise of stock options, pay raises for federal civilian and military personnel and cost-of-living adjustments to several federal programs.

Meanwhile, personal spending increased to $51.9 billion, or 0.5 percent.
