Sales for Natick-based BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. were up 8.5 percent last month compared to March 2007.
Total sales for March 2008 were $858.1 million. Same-store sales increased by 6 percent for the month, with gas sales accounting for more than half of that increase.
The company said food sales grew by 5 percent and general merchandise sales were up 1 percent. It said it saw the smallest sales increase in New England and the largest in upstate New York.
BJ’s operates 177 clubs in 16 states.
