Bay State Jobless Rate Up To 9.5%

The state's unemployment rate increased to 9.5 percent in January from 9.3 percent the previous month, according to the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

January job losses were recorded in the construction, manufacturing, financial activities and government sectors.

The trade, transportation and utilities sector, along with the professional, scientific and business services sector and the education and health services sector recorded job gains during the month.

The state has lost an estimated 92,200 jobs in the last 12 months.
