The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has fined Ayer food manufacturing company Nasoya Foods USA, LLC. a total of $19,902 for violating hazardous waste regulations, MassDEP announced Tuesday.
The violations were discovered through a tip from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, where it was learned that approximately 150 gallons of hazardous waste were improperly shipped without the proper waste documentation. Additionally, the company produced more waste than was allowed by MassDEP.
About $14,319 of the $19,902 fine will be used to pay for 50% of the hazardous materials disposal costs for waste disposed of at the Devens Regional Household Hazardous Products Collection Center, as part of MassDEP’s Supplemental Environmental Project.
The discounted disposal rate will be provided to residents of Ayer, Ashby, Clinton, Lancaster, Lunenburg, and Townsend.
Nayosha Foods was fined for air pollution violations in 2019.
