Westborough-based Ascend Elements, a lithium ion battery recycling and manufacturing company, was selected by SK Battery America, a Korean-owned motor vehicle manufacturer with a facility in Georgia, to recycle the company’s manufacturing scrap.
The scrap material will be recycled at Ascend Elements’ new $43-million, 154,000-square-foot battery recycling facility in Covington, Ga., according to a Wednesday press release from Ascend.
Through Ascend’s recycling process, 98% of battery materials they acquire are salvaged and returned to the battery supply chain.
Ascend Elements is actively looking to tap into the future electric vehicle industry and seeks to expand its commercial recycling and battery materials manufacturing operations throughout 2022 and 2023.
“SKBA is embracing sustainability and reducing its impact on the environment by recycling every bit of scrap battery material it produces. We are incredibly proud to have our new recycling base in Covington, Ga., and we look forward to helping SKBA conserve valuable material and keep battery production costs down,” said Michael O’Kronley, CEO of Ascend Elements, in the press release.
