American Airlines returns to Worcester with Philadelphia service

American Airlines will resume service in Worcester with a new daily, nonstop flight to Philadelphia International Airport in November, the Massachusetts Port Authority announced in conjunction with the airline on Saturday.

Tickets for the service, which begins on Nov. 2, go on sale Monday.

The daily flight will leave Worcester Regional Airport at 6:31 p.m. and arrive in Philadelphia at 8:02 p.m. In the other direction, a flight will depart Philadelphia at 4:52 p.m. and arrive in Worcester at 6:05 p.m.

The announcement comes on the heels of news from Aug. 18, when Massport announced the upcoming return of daily, nonstop Delta Air Lines flights from Worcester to LaGuardia Airport in New York City, also starting in November.

Previously, JetBlue announced in May that it would begin providing service from Worcester to New York City and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. beginning in August and November, respectively, making it the first commercial airline to announce service resumption in Worcester after all commercial carriers paused service to the city during the coronavirus pandemic.

Before the pandemic, American Airlines provided nonstop service between Worcester and Philadelphia, Delta provided service to Detroit, and JetBlue provided nonstops to New York City, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.
