Delta Air Lines will begin providing daily, nonstop service between the Worcester Regional Airport and LaGuardia Airport in New York City starting in November, the airline announced in conjunction with the Massachusetts Port Authority on Wednesday.

Prior to the pandemic, Delta provided service from Worcester to Detroit.

“The resumption of commercial airline service at Worcester Regional Airport is exciting news for the City of Worcester and Central Massachusetts,” said City Manager Edward Augustus, in a statement. “Between JetBlue and Delta, this region will once again have direct connections to New York and Florida.

In May, JetBlue announced it would begin providing service from Worcester to New York City, as well as Fort Lauderdale, Fla. beginning in August and November, respectively.

The announcement made JetBlue the first commercial carrier to resume service to and from Worcester after all commercial service to the airport stopped in October 2020, due to disruptions in the airline industry because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to the pandemic, American Airlines provided nonstop service between Worcester and Philadelphia, in addition to Delta's Detroit flight and JetBlue's nonstops to New York City, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.
