The Associated Industries of Massachusetts has joined the Defense Technology Initiative, a Waltham-based umbrella group devoted to supporting the New England defense industry.
AIM said the industry employs more than 115,000 in Massachusetts and also helps promote technological development that feeds other high-tech industries in the state.
Many in the region’s defense industry are concerned about federal spending cuts. AIM noted a recent Boston Globe report that Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford will lose three-quarters of its funding for contract workers.
AIM’s partnership with DTI allows its member companies to join the initiative at a reduced rate. DTI produces research on defense-related economic trends and discusses the issue with members of Congress from throughout New England.
