Associate attorney
Seder & Chandler, LLP, Worcester
Lives: Worcester
Birthplace: Worcester
Colleges: UMass Amherst, Western New England University School of Law
This Worcester lifer practices real estate and land use law, and he can be seen appearing before zoning and planning boards on behalf of companies seeking to develop in Central Massachusetts. Borenstein joined Seder & Chandler in 2014, immediately after finishing law school. Before joining the firm, he worked on the research team for former Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley in 2013 and previously worked for law firm in Brazil as a summer legal intern where he helped business clients establish a presence in the U.S. As a big believer in Worcester's cultural and economic momentum, Borenstein is vice president of nonprofit Squares Squared, Inc., the operator of POW! WOW! Worcester, helping the street art organization navigate the legal needs for its community projects. He was a graduate of the first class of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Worcester program in 2016. He served on the city's Community Development Advisory Committee. He's an officer of the Latin American Health Alliance of Central Mass. and director of the Worcester Jewish Community Center. Most recently, he's worked as an organizer of the Worcester Jewish History Project with the Worcester Historical Museum.
From 40 Under Forty judge Kate Sharry: “Mark's unique style of bringing everyone together to get stuff done in this city is inspiring. His dedication and enthusiasm are seemingly endless!”
What will the inscription say on the statue they build of you? Worcester Public Schools Citywide Science Fair Winner - 2000
If you could go back in time, when would you go back to? Late 1940's Worcester. I would stroll down Water Street with my grandfather on a bustling Saturday night and have a corned beef sandwich at Weintraub's.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly said Mark A. Borenstein currently serves on the Worcester Community Development Advisory Committee. He stopped serving on that committee in 2016.
