During the last recession in 2009, Bryan Sawyer became the general manager of his family's Bull Run Restaurant and embarked on its rebuilding, survival, and upgrade.
At 25, he started at his family's business in a time of hardships and uncertainty. Throughout the last 10 years, he has helped his family make renovations and improvements on the menu, entertainment and overall service. This has impressively resulted in the Bull Run's growth from $800,000 in annual revenues to more than $4 million, after surviving the economic uncertainty the 75-year-old restaurant endured. This ability to tackle uncertainty has helped Sawyer adapt during the age of the coronavirus, including dealing with restrictions and the closing and reopening process. Sawyer is a member of the Shirley board of selectmen and previously served as the chair of the finance committee. He joined the Ayer Rotary Club in 2012, where he served as president, treasurer and is on the board of directors, giving him opportunities to participate in local fundraisers and service projects.
What four people would you like to travel with for a year? Robert F. Kennedy for his commitment to the betterment of others. Jay-Z for his talent and entrepreneurship. Doris Kearns Goodwin for her dedication to history. Tom Hanks, because he seems grounded.
What is the first thing you’ll do after the pandemic is over? Vacation outside of the U.S.
Who is most responsible for your success? My mother. As my mother was an educator, I had the unique benefit of being in the same school system as her.
What is your next goal in life? Ownership of my family's business, to ensure its success until the next generation is prepared to manage.
