Anna K. Zheng, MD, 35
Physician coordinator for perinatal services & family physician
Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Worcester
Residence: Shrewsbury
Birthplace: Guangzhou, China
Colleges: Barnard College, Columbia University & SUNY Downstate College of Medicine
Since joining the Kennedy CHC in October, Zheng has led the center’s efforts with the March of Dimes to bring group pregnancy visits to the Worcester facility. That service gives Kennedy CHC patients the support from other expectant mothers, access to more information around nutrition and other important tips, all in an environment designed to be educational, fun and engaging. A family medicine doctor with a specialty in advanced obstetrics, Zheng offers Zumba classes free to staff and their friends and family, which puts into action her beliefs in healthy lifestyles. Zheng was involved as a volunteer at the Brooklyn Free Clinic, a medical clinic for the uninsured in New York, before moving to Massachusetts. At Kennedy CHC, her skills and work ethic are benefiting a potentially vulnerable population. More than 26,000 patients receive care each year from the center, with 95% of those identifying as low-income and 29% uninsured. Only about one-third of Kennedy CHC’s patients speak English. – Profile written by Grant Welker
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? My husband’s meat sauce over vegetables
Why do you live in Central Mass.? To be closer to family.
Who is most responsible for your success? This question is hard to answer. I have had so many mentors and a pair of good parents. I am so grateful for their guidance, love and devotion.
Where do you go from here? I will continue to work for my company, to help moms and babies live healthier lives, and to help the people of Worcester live healthier lives.
