MassDevelopment has made a $2.8 million loan for the purchase and renovation of the Plummer Building in downtown Worcester.
The vacant, five-story, 21,019-square-foot building is at 180 Main St. and will be converted into office space for the District Attorney's office. The building is across the street from the new Regional Justice Center, where the Worcester County District Attorney's main office is located.
Construction is expected to be complete later this year, at which time about 100 employees currently in the DA's 332 Main St. office will be moved to the building. The space at 332 Main St. is leased, and the lease is set to expire this year.
The Plummer Building is being bought by 184 Main Street Associates LLC, which is run by Raymond Mantyla and Robert and Katherine Oftring, the same group that bought and renovated the building that now houses the Worcester Trial Court's law library.
The group is using MassDevelopment's New Markets Loan Fund, which targets real estate investments in urban areas.
