SENIOR SURETY BOND UNDERWRITER, Liberty Mutual Surety
Company location: Weston
Residence: Grafton
Favorite movie: "The Karate Kid" (the original)
Career highlights: One accomplishment I am proud of is being part of the local surety team that successfully merged two local offices amid the merger between Liberty Mutual Surety and Safeco Surety. The main goals were to maintain our accounts and continue to provide exemplary service to our clients. We successfully transitioned through the merger and remain one of the most admired sureties in the region. Secondly, being named secretary of the Surety Association of Massachusetts is important to me. Being a member of the board allows me to be a part of potential policy changes and improvements to the local surety industry.
Community involvement: My daughter, Abigail, was born prematurely in November 2009. She spent four months in the NICU at UMass Memorial. As a way to give back, I help organize the annual Tee Up For Tots golf tournament, which helps raise funds for the NICU.
Biggest challenge: My biggest challenge was the time my family had to spend in the NICU with my daughter. Having to leave the hospital every night for four months without taking my daughter home with us was difficult. I learned a lot about myself through that experience, and I came out of it a stronger person. I realized how important it is to value family and friends. I also learned that you can learn a lot from a child. My daughter became my hero for overcoming everything she went through in those four months to become the beautiful girl she is today.
Mentors: My parents are my biggest mentors. I may not have realized it at the time, and probably took it for granted, but they taught me that hard work and unselfishness are important attributes.
Hidden talent: I have an uncanny ability to memorize directions. My wife calls me the human GPS.
