2011 40 Under Forty: Adam Cooper

CEO, Atlas | ADC

Company location: West Boylston

Residence: Grafton

Favorite movie: "The Game!" It goes from crappy movie to the best movie ever in about 20 seconds at the end.

Age: 38

Career highlights: My career began in television. From 1997-2002, I was fortunate to win a number of awards, including an Emmy and multiple Emmy nominations. In Miami in 2002, I left my job as a television personality to start a production company, adc Media. We partnered with Viacom and The Miami Herald to create top-rated sport shows in Miami. In 2009, I moved back home to transform my family’s 75-year-old printing company, The Atlas Press, into a full-service, cross-media marketing agency, Atlas|ADC.

Community involvement: It is important for not only myself to be active in the community but for atlas|ADC as well. As a company, we are always donating our time and services to various causes, whether they are annual events or more recent causes, like contributing to a variety of the relief efforts for the tornadoes that devastated parts of our state this summer.

Personally, I am an active volunteer with my daughter’s school and have also been involved with such events as Relay For Life and Light The Night.

Biggest success: If I had to single out one, it would be helping SublimeLearning.com win the award for Best New Technologies within the educational software industry for 2011.

For Atlas|ADC, it was one of our first real meaty website projects, and to have that site win a national award made me extremely proud.

Biggest challenge: Taking a 75-year-old family business that was still extremely successful, despite operating in a shrinking industry, and redefining who we are and what we do in less than two years.

Mentor: I’ve never had a mentor though I try and take something away from everyone I encounter.

Hidden talent: I can talk about any topic and sound like an expert for approximately 10 minutes. After that, it’s all downhill.
