Integrated Systems Consultant, American Alarm
Company location: Auburn
Residence: Princeton
Age: 34
Career highlights: I started my journey at UMass Amherst and then transferred to Worcester State College where I graduated with a degree in history. My father’s company needed some assistance, so I went to help out for what I thought would be a brief stint. As time went on, I worked in various roles, including dispatching in the central station and service and installation scheduling. In 2003, after careful consideration, my father sold his business to American Alarm. At that time, I began to transition into sales.
Community involvement: I was recently invited to join the members’ council at the Worcester Art Museum. The council promotes involvement in the arts and all that the museum has to offer. I also try to help out at Community Harvest in Grafton and by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. In addition, I engage with the community through some of the local chambers of commerce.
Biggest success: My biggest professional success had been the transition away from the operations end of the company and towards sales. In the last two years I have seen my hard work pay off as my sales have continued to grow even in a challenging economy. I credit my strong customer base, a good company and a great deal of networking for the success.
Mentors: I would have to say my father was my mentor. After starting his business in 1968 at the request of some local businessmen, he managed to grow Alphatronics Security for 35 years into the largest alarm company in Central Massachusetts. He also was very involved in growing the industry and is very well respected by his peers. It is this same commitment to customers and love of the industry that has helped me to become successful in this field that he was an early pioneer in.
