Title: Director of Economic Development
Company: City of Worcester
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Worcester

Career highlights: I am the City of Worcester’s director of economic development — a position from which I get to help make Worcester a better place to live, work, and invest. As an urban planner, I find Worcester an incredibly exciting place to be both professionally and personally. I get to work side-by-side with a fantastic group of people who care deeply about the city and its future. I came to Worcester from the Boston Redevelopment Authority — Boston’s planning and economic development agency.
Community Involvement: I chose a life in public service as a way of giving back. My work allows me to be extremely hands-on in my community. I enjoy feeling that my efforts help improve the lives of real people and their neighborhoods.
Biggest success: I was instrumental in revising an important state law that redefined Boston’s affordable housing linkage policy, resulting in the construction of hundreds of units of affordable housing.
Dream job: Without question: Tour Guide. I like geography and history — it’s a perfect match.
Businessperson he most admires: My wife, Nadia, a partner in a boutique Worcester law firm.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? I would be involved in Federal policymaking. The resources and powers of the federal government are the keys to revitalizing America’s cities.
If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you? The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook by Joshua Piven.
