2008 40 Under Forty: William Tarzia

William Tarzia

Age: 36

Title: CPA, Partner

Company: CCR

Company location: Westborough

Residence: Westborough

Career highlights:

I’m a CPA with 14 years of public accounting experience (five years of experience at the Big Four level). I specialize in auditing software developers, manufacturers, financial service providers, construction companies, retailers, and government contractors. I have extensive experience providing public companies with second accounting firm services such as advising on non-recurring complex accounting issues, new accounting standards implementation, due diligence and SEC filing reviews.

Community involvement:

I’m very involved in the community as a member of the Mount Pleasant Country Club in Boylston. In January I was named treasurer by its 250 members. In this role, I direct a five-person finance committee to review and allocate operating and capital budgets for the organization.

Biggest professional success:

In 2006, I was named income partner at CCR and one year later was named equity partner. While the average age of the equity partners at CCR is 50, I am definitely making a name for myself at 36. I’m currently leading my peers in total new business brought in over the past two years and I hope to increase my personal goal for new business in 2008 by 20%.

Dream job:

If I could have any job in the world I would love to be a PGA golfer.

Businessperson you admire most:

I really admire Theo Epstein, the general manager of the Boston Red Sox. He has become a leader in his industry at a young age and has not abandoned his principles and his belief in the people around him. He truly understands how a team should work together to achieve a goal.

If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do?

I’d be a Wall Street analyst because the industry is very dynamic. Successful analysts use strategic skills to figure out what is going to happen in the future and plan accordingly. I’d like to be a key player in those strategic decisions.

Favorite movie:

At this point it is “Twelve Dancing Princesses” because I get to spend time with my five year old daughter.

If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you?

“Good to Great” by Jim Collins.
