Marc Terry
Age: 39
Title: Partner
Company: Mirick O'Connell
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Ashland
Career highlights:
I am a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Mirick, O’Connell, where I specialize in the representation of the firm’s business and public sector clients in a wide range of labor and employment issues including the defense of discrimination and wage claims and labor arbitrations. I also advise clients in day-to-day employment-related matters, and represent them in collective bargaining negotiations. I like to say that before joining Mirick I was miscast as a union lawyer for the first two years of my career.
Community involvement:
I am on the Board of Directors of Leadership MetroWest. Leadership MetroWest is a non-profit organization committed to building stronger communities by developing leaders predominantly through its flagship program, The Leadership Academy. The Leadership Academy brings together established and emerging leaders from the public, private and non-profit sectors to empower them with the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to actively participate in civic life in the MetroWest region. The thing I enjoy the most about being involved with Leadership MetroWest is the sense that I am improving my community.
Biggest professional success:
My biggest professional success is the trusted relationships I have developed with the firm‘s clients.
Dream job:
A professional golfer or starting pitcher with the Sox.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do?
I have known since I was in 8th grade that I wanted to be a lawyer, so other than hoping to be a professional golfer or pitcher with the Sox, I am not sure what I would do. I am interested in finance so maybe I would work in the investment world or look to own my own business. I’d also like to teach law someday.
Favorite movie:
“Forrest Gump”, “Field of Dreams” and “Parenthood.”
If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you?
Plato’s “The Republic.” I am not really the philosopher type, but when I read it in college, it caused me to think about the nature of people in a whole new way. I found the book to be incredibly thought-provoking.
