True, we are in the days of email and Skype.
But sometimes there are still business trips to take and jet planes to board, whether it’s for a major meeting or industry convention. In certain situations, it pays to be there in person. The following tips will help you arrive more relaxed and ready to get down to business.
Keep safety in mind. This is especially true if you’re a woman traveling alone, a fact you should never reveal while on the road, notes a tip list on www.WomenTravelTips.com.
The site recommends keeping a small, high-powered flashlight in your briefcase and on your nightstand for emergencies, and using a laminated business card for your luggage tag.
“Anyone checking the address will not know your home address and telephone number,” the article explains.
Pack light. New York Times small business blogger Tom Szaky says he has it all down to a medium-size backpack — and that includes his laptop — with any supplemental presentation material sent to his hotel ahead of time.
He wears as much clothing as he can to avoid checking a bag.
Szaky finds that some items come in handy when far from home. “Sunglasses, international power converters, first aid kit, gloves, hat, swimsuit, a few USB drives and toiletries,” he suggests.
Avoid hassle. This means flying direct, with no missed connections that could cost you time, according to Ed Hewitt of IndependentTraveler.com, in an article on MSNBC.com.
“Fly early in the day; there are fewer delays, cancellations and people in the airport,” he states.
Also, consider if an alternate airport might be an option, as they are often less crowded and easier to navigate.
