The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) has awarded $980,000 to Acton biotechnology startup Excellims Corp., which will provide the company with working capital to fund commercialization efforts, the MLSC said.

Craft-brewing business grows in Central Mass.

Despite owning the first brewery in New England's second largest city, Ben Roesch started small. Wormtown Brewery Co. occupied just 2,000 square feet in a former ice cream parlor on Worcester's Park Avenue when it opened in March 2010. AIM: Index reflects warmer economic view

The monthly Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) Business Confidence Index came in at 53 out of a 100-point scale, the highest score since August 2012, just before the impending federal fiscal cliff “crippled confidence in fiscal policy leadership,” according to Raymond G. Karyopharm finds clinical partner, possible new uses for cancer drug

Karyopharm Therapeutics of Natick has produced promising results as it develops its cancer drug, KPT-330. Now, the startup is exploring other potential applications for its technology. Karyopharm CEO Dr. Michael Kauffman said the startup has tested KPT-330 in a topical gel on animal subjects and gotten positive results in treating wounds that are difficult to heal. The startup is also studying other applications for autoimmune diseases, but Kauffman said it was too early to discuss those in detail.
