Westborough's eClinicalWorks has positioned itself as a market leader in health care IT by tailoring innovative products to the changing market. Today, that means reaching out to health care consumers, who are expected to become involved in choosing where to seek treatment as federal health care reform ushers in a new, value-based system in which more people will have health insurance, and pressure from payers to curb costs mounts.

Westborough-based information technology firm eClinicalWorks said it's investing another $50 million in its mobile health business unit, allowing the company to hire an additional 100 software developers.

SimpliVity Corp., a Westborough-based IT startup, said it has secured $58 million in Series C financing to support continued growth.

Westborough-based RXi Pharmaceuticals has signed an agreement with a British company to distribute RXi's clinical-stage dermal scarring drug in the European Union ahead of regulatory approval. RXi said in a statement that Ethicor Ltd., a London-based specialty pharmaceuticals company that distributes unlicensed medicines used for unmet clinical needs, now has the distribution rights to RXI-109 in the European Union with the potential to distribute the drug to other parts of the world before the product is registered in the countries covered by the agreement.

RXi Pharmaceuticals of Westborough, which is pursuing approval of a drug aimed at minimizing post-surgical scarring, saw a 61-percent year-over-year increase in revenue for the third quarter, although it posted another loss, the biotech startup reported today.

Virtusa Corp. of Westborough reported revenue growth of 17 percent in its most recent quarter, but fell short of analysts' estimates for both profit and revenue.

An electronic health records system from Westborough-based eClinicalWorks is being offered to more than 300 private physicians in the Chicago area.
