Milford Regional president to also become CEO

Edward J. Kelly, the president of Milford Regional Medical Center, will also become the CEO of the health care organization in 2016, Milford Regional announced Thursday.

SeraCare hit with state environmental fine

Medical device manufacturer SeraCare Life Sciences of Milford has been slapped with a $6,621 penalty over alleged violations of state hazardous waste management regulations, the Mass. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced. During a May 2014 inspection, DEP personnel determined that SeraCare stored hazardous waste for longer than allowed, failed to properly label hazardous waste containers, clearly designate its hazardous waste accumulation area and keep a record of inspections conducted on its hazardous waste accumulation area, a DEP statement said.

Central Mass. hospitals receive HPC investments

Several Central Mass. organizations were among the 28 community hospitals to receive awards totaling $60 million from the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC), it announced on Wednesday.

3rd-quarter sales, profits jump at Waters

Consigli breaks ground for new Sandy Hook school

Consigli Construction of Milford, which is managing the construction of a new elementary school in Connecticut to replace the site of a gunman's fatal rampage in 2012, has broken ground for the 87,000 square-foot state-of-the-art Sandy Hook School, the company announced Tuesday.

Rockland Trust parent reports solid gains

Independent Bank Corp., the parent of Rockland Trust Co. which operates branches in Bellingham, Franklin and Milford, reported third-quarter net income of $15.7 million.

Report: EMC held merger talks

Data-storage giant EMC Corp. of Hopkinton held merger talks with technology giants Hewlett-Packard and Dell within the last year as it faced pressure from shareholders, The Wall Street Journal reported today. The Journal said EMC held on-again, off-again discussions with officials from Hewlett-Packard and, while those talks appear to be off now, it's not clear whether they will begin again. As for Dell, the WSJ cited people familiar with talks between the two firms, adding that it's not clear what the status of those talks are.

PLC shareholders to vote on merger in Sept.

Saying it has been unable to raise capital to continue operations, cardiac and vascular medical device company PLC Systems Inc. of Milford has proposed merging with a California company and selling its RenalGuard operations to a debtholder, according to a statement and a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Shareholders will vote on these measures at an annual, special meeting of shareholders at the Doubletree Hotel in Milford on Sept. 18, the company said last week.

Reliant, Southboro Medical pursue merger, break with Atrius Health

Reliant Medical Group of Worcester and Southboro Medical Group are looking to merge, potentially creating an organization of more than 300 physicians that would serve about 300,000 patients throughout Central Massachusetts, the organizations announced Tuesday.

Waters Corp. announced strong earnings and the acquisition of virtually all the assets of a Hungarian technology company, the Milford company reported Tuesday.
