New Marlborough hotel moves ahead

(UPDATED) Minnesota-based CSM Corp. has closed on a parcel of land in the Marlborough Hills office park, paying $1.95 million for the parcel, where it will develop a Hilton Garden Inn to serve the needs of GE Healthcare Life Sciences and other incoming businesses.

Businesses say key elements are in place for Framingham to draw more tech companies

Move over, Cambridge. If recent expansions and arrivals are any indication, Framingham might be a new mecca for technology companies. Susan Herzberg, CEO of Boston Heart Diagnostics, said town policies on permitting have changed during her four years with the company, a span in which the company has negotiated a few different leases. Coupled with Framingham's natural attributes, she thinks the more business-friendly approach makes the town a true destination for tech firms.

GE life sciences division coming to Marlborough, will employ hundreds

General Electric has settled on Marlborough as the home of its health care and life sciences division, the company announced Wednesday morning.

TJX sales rise 7%, profits 14%

The Framingham-based parent of off-price retailers T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods reported another strong quarter Tuesday, with a 7-percent increase in sales and a 14-percent jump in net income.

BSX, Japan firm sign joint deal on product parts

Boston Scientific of Marlborough and a Japanese firm will jointly develop a new product that will be used in Boston Scientific's Polaris Multi-Modality Imaging System that's used to treat heart patients.

Marlborough firm acquired by Hitachi Data Systems

Data storage company Sepaton of Marlborough has been acquired by Hitachi Data Systems of California, according to announcements on both companies' websites. The deal was announced last week in a blog post by a Hitachi executive, as well as an industry website, StorageReview.com. Terms were not disclosed. A brief announcement on Hitachi's website called the deal a “win” for customers. Hitachi, based in Santa Clara in the Silicon Valley, said the acquisition will augment its line of data protection products for business customers.

RXi Pharmaceuticals losses hold steady

RXi Pharmaceuticals Corp., a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in Marlborough, reported that its net losses held steady at $2 million in the second quarter compared to the same period a year ago.

Marlborough Hospital hires nursing, operations chief

An executive with Saint Vincent Hospital has been named to a new dual role of chief nursing officer and chief operating officer at Marlborough Hospital, the hospital announced Friday. John G. Kelly, a registered nurse with more than 22 years of experience as a health care provider in Massachusetts, the last seven in hospital leadership roles, will be responsible for both in-patient and out-patient services, according to Steven Roach, president and CEO at Marlborough Hospital, part of UMass Memorial Health Care.

Urgent care chain expands with Marlborough clinic

By the end of this year people in Marlborough who are nowhere near a hospital emergency room will have another option to get fractured bones set or have wounds sutured. They'll be at the Doctors Express Urgent Care clinic on Rte. 20, where patients with less-serious ailments will be able to walk in without an appointment seven days a week, and walk out within an hour, according to the company. Doctors Express, a national chain of more than 50 walk-in clinics, is in the process of remodeling 4,000 square feet of office vacant space in a retail area that also includes a liquor store and a 99 restaurant. When they're finished, the facility will include nine exam rooms, x-ray equipment and a lab for medical tests.

Three companies settle with EPA

Three area companies were among seven in New England that paid penalties ranging from $3,000 to $9,500 to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last month to settle claims that they violated federal laws meant to prevent oil spills, the agency said.
