Massachusetts has banned happy hour since 1984, with the goal of cutting down on drunk driving. Over the years, the Massachusetts legislature has flirted with the idea of allowing restaurants and bars to sell discounted alcohol, most recently in July when the Senate included it in a large economic development law proposal. That effort has yet to be approved by the House, and Gov. Charlie Baker said he would veto such a measure, if it came to his desk.

Very sad that so many people think happy hours should be legal. Many bars, pubs, and restaurants don't want it to be legal, and we have more than enough problems with drunk driving and alcoholism to promote even more drinking--and it's generally not a profit center for those businesses that host happy hours.
The cost of addiction is too high! Who bears the cost besides the person addicted? Families and communities do! Revenue in the alcoholic drinks market amounts to over $261 BILLION in 2022 and is expected to grow annually by 10.51%. Let's not feed this monster. Sorry restaurant and bar owners! Keep your drink prices high and lower the price of food to lure in customers.
