On Jan. 25, Leominster Credit Union announced it would provide all of its employees with a $600 bonus payment, calling them stimulus checks, in referencing to the national conversation about financial relief for all Americans.

“We know that many individuals have faced struggles and challenges over the past year, in light of COVID-19, and we wanted to assist and support our employees as they continue to navigate through these unprecedented times,” President and CEO Barbara Mahoney said in a press release, announcing the initiative.

Bonuses are frequently tied to company and/or employee performance, whereas these payments were framed as a way to support and bolster both employees and the local economy.

    The employees at LCU are probably working extra long hours processing PPP Loans and exposing themselves to the virus in a crowded office environment. I don't see why it's ridiculous. LCU sounds like a caring employer.

    Many people have been going into the office everyday and exposing themselves to Covid to keep the economy running. Their employer is grateful for their sacrifice. Nothing ridiculous about it. It's called appreciation.

    This is ridiculous, why would we give money to people who are working and earning a living? It's the multitudes of people who've been made unemployed by misguided policies that need support, not those that are still working!
