The Worcester Together Fund announced it would be distributing $158,208 in its first round of grant funding in an effort to help the community deal with the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Thursday press release.

Working for Worcester, a student-run nonprofit started at Holy Cross, raised $23,240.59 for the Worcester Together COVID-19 emergency response fund, the group announced in a joint press release with United Way of Central Massachusetts on Wednesday.

Natick-based Middlesex Savings Bank will distribute $1 million to local nonprofit organizations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company announced in a press release.

Robb Zargas has spent his entire career helping at-risk children. For the last four years, he has run The CASA Project, which works with volunteers who help children in the foster care system, and more than doubled its reach in Worcester County.

CEO Eric Dickson said while UMass is grateful for the few million dollars in donations it garners each year, they don’t even compare to hospitals in Boston, who tend to generate tens of millions of dollars in philanthropy every year.
