Sheena Toscano always dreamed of opening her own salon but thought the opportunity was decades in the future. However, her boyfriend (now husband) encouraged her to chase after her dream and with a small loan from her parents and a 600-square-foot space, Sheena’s Salon & Spa was born.

Toscano then expanded her business to a 7,000-square-foot salon with 12 stations, five spa treatment rooms, a nail care room, and a cutting-edge color bar. Surviving the COVID lockdowns was a struggle felt by all small businesses, but Toscano came back stronger, hiring additional employees and planning to expand to a 20,000-square-foot facility. Each time the salon grows, Toscano selects historic buildings in Spencer and restores them. As a Green Circle Salons member, she recycles all the beauty waste from her salon and is committed to using only cruelty-free, green beauty products. Toscano joined the Spencer Exchange Club in 2018 and created an 18 under 18 award for teens who make a positive difference in the community. Toscano offers free oncology massages for cancer patients through Hope Oncology Massage, Inc. and provides free haircuts to the Seven Hills Foundation.

What Central Mass. community is best? Spencer is the best community of course!!!! I have lived in Worcester and Honolulu and chose to settle in Spencer because it just feels like home. The business owners are hands down the best around. Each one is so eager to help out all the different charities and sponsoring our club sports teams.

What life goal will you accomplish in the next 10 years? I have always had in the back of my mind someday I would open a cosmetology school. Having been myself and having hired close to 50 graduates of cosmetology school I just see so much room for improvement.
