In 2017, Alexander became the first female president and CEO at 81-year-old Southbridge Credit Union, which has $186 million in assets and nearly 13,000 members. After making great efforts to improve the finances and member experience, SCU achieved $238,764 in positive income for 2018, all with 42 employees. She joined Southbridge Credit Union in 2016 as chief sales and retail officer, and led a rebranding including a new tagline, “Southbridge Credit Union: We’ve Got You” and brought in new rewards programs for members. Alexander has served on the Sturbridge School Committee and as the vice president of the Tantasqua Education Foundation. What did 40 Under Forty mean to you? It was something I had always aspired to, after seeing my mentors and friends in the ranks for years leading up to it. It is like gaining membership into a super cool club of amazingly smart and talented individuals, and it affirmed my work and community involvement mattered.
What advice do you have for this year’s winners? Learn all aspects of your business and industry. Always surround yourself with doers: They make great company, hold you accountable on your worst days, and elevate you to higher standards.
