40 Under Forty Class of 2006: Troy Siebels

Class of 2006

Troy Siebels

Then: Executive director at The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts, Worcester

Now: President & CEO at The Hanover Theatre & Conservatory for the Performing Arts, Worcester

When Siebels was named 40 Under Forty, the Hanover Theatre had not yet opened and was about to run afoul of the biggest U.S. economic slowdown since the Great Depression. Yet, Siebels opened the theater in 2008 and has steadily grown the downtown facility to roughly 200,000 annual visitors who come to see more than 200 performances each year, along with the local kids who come by for dozens of classes Hanover holds. Siebels has shifted his vision beyond the theater’s home, planning to develop a Theatre District out of the surrounding neighborhood, leading the creation of the Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District. Siebels has partnered with the Worcester Business Development Corp. to build a new black box theater about a block away at 20 Franklin St. – Profile written by Grant Welker

What did 40 Under Forty mean to you? It was 18 months before the theater opened, so there was still a good deal of cynicism about whether it would succeed. I hope we’ve put that to rest! I’m proud of having gone from 40 Under Forty before my 40th birthday to WBJ’s Power 50 before my 50th birthday, and I’m anxious to be considered for Senile 60 when the time comes.
