40 Under 40: Miriam Hyder

Since rejoining her family’s business in 2013, Hyder marketed its specialty food to an expanding customer base, resulting in a 20-percent sales increase in her first year. Hyder worked at Mediterranean Marketplace since childhood, leaving for a decade after college to gain other experience, including for minor league baseball team Worcester Tornadoes and Friendly’s Ice Cream.

Hyder served Discover Central Massachusetts and Worcester Local First, and as a coach at Girls, Inc. Hyder dishes about food with Jordan Levy and Jim Polito on the radio station WTAG.

Whose career would you like to emulate? Anthony “Spag” Borgatti – he built a business into a true destination, putting Central Mass. on the map.

What should older generations know about up-and-coming workforce? Young people bring new insight on how to reach today’s consumer.

Where do you get motivation? I watched my father work tirelessly to build this firm for the 35 years I have been alive, and that inspires me to make it stronger and better every day.

If I hadn’t gone down this career path, I would have liked to…be a cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” A girl can dream, right?
