For the past five years now, Worcester Business Journal has asked its readers for the best companies to do business with. And each year, since 2014, the end result is this WBJ Best of Business list.
Compared to other Best of… lists where editorial staffs carefully vet winners using their own expertise and opinions – notably, Boston Magazine's Best of Boston ascribes to this strict standard – the WBJ Best of Business is a popularity contest. It is our equivalent to walking in a room full of your business leader peers and asking, “Hey, do you know of a good office cleaning company?” or “Where do you take clients out for a drink?” or “Who's your accountant?” or “Where can I get a solid website designed?”
We ask as many WBJ readers who are willing to take our online survey at the end of the year, double-check the results for any chicanery (multiple votes all from the same internet address all at the same time are particular red flags) and declare the top vote-getters as the WBJ Best of Business for 2018. And, as always, because we know the most popular may not be the best for everybody, we included notable runners-up who received a significant amount of votes, already had sterling reputations, or both.
This year, we had a record 2,155 voters recommend their top companies in at least 10 of the categories. We included a record number of categories – 49, up from 44 last year – adding new options like Best Local Brewery, Best Architectural Firm and Best Young Professionals Network.
So, if you're looking for good companies and organizations to help your business prosper, we recommend you take a look at this list. And if you're looking to celebrate some of the best business in Central Massachusetts, we invite you to attend our WBJ Best of Business Awards event at 5 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester.
