C-sections can double birthing costs

An important new study by the Leapfrog Group shows that more than 60 percent of the reporting hospitals have excessive rates of Cesareans, or C-sections. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Cesarean birth has increased greatly since it was first measured in the '60s, and today, one in three women have C-sections.

Harrington receives $10K for behavioral health unit

Harrington HealthCare System has received a $10,000 donation from Southbridge-based Savers Bank that officials say will help the organization fund expansion of behavioral health services at its Hubbard Hospital campus in Webster.

Citing growing patient volume, Southbridge-based Harrington HealthCare on Tuesday announced the hiring of seven new physicians and the relocation of several offices across its service area.
