A new report shows Greater Worcester is significantly behind the stagnated state in having women as leaders.

Assumption University on Friday held a special gala for alumni, faculty, and other donors who helped support its seven-year Light the Way campaign, which saw more than $50 million in funds raised. 

Central Massachusetts business organizations with recent hires and promotions include Oriol Health Care, GFA Federal Credit Union, and Bay State Savings Bank.

Assumption University in Worcester is now offering women’s ice hockey and men’s swimming as varsity, making it the first institution in the Northeast-10 Conference to sponsor all 24 sports in the NCAA Division II Conference.

Assumption University in Worcester named Provost Greg Weiner its interim president as the university looks to replace President Francesco Cesareo, who will retire in June.

Since 2020, more than half of Central Massachusetts’ colleges and universities have seen a transition in top leadership, with eight presidents leaving or announcing their departure in the last two years.

Assumption University President Francesco Cesareo will retire at the end of this academic year after 15 years in the role, the Worcester college announced Tuesday.

Assumption University in Worcester broke ground on its new $2.6-million athletic facility on Jan. 9, funded by notable college football coach and alumnus Brian Kelly, according to a story on the college’s website.

Assumption University in Worcester is naming its new 1,000-square-foot health sciences center, completed in November 2020, after alum Dr. Richard Catrambone and his wife Sophia, following a multi-million dollar donation to the school.

When students return to campus at Nichols College this fall, they will be greeted by a new face: Glenn Sulmasy, who began his term July 1 as president of the institution in Dudley.
