The Worcester Railers Hockey Club said Wednesday they won't play their upcoming winter hockey season while much of the rest of their league moves forward during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Sterling Academy of Gymnastics has received a $50,000 microloan from the North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. for working capital for pandemic-related relief and recovery, as well as to help start a remote education program, NCMDC announced on Tuesday.

The Worcester Railers Hockey Club will begin its 2020-21 regular season on Jan. 15, as part of a split-season format announced by the team in conjunction with the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association on Friday.
