Dallas-based Zix Corp. has signed Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts as a Premium Payor Services customer, enabling doctors to write electronic prescriptions.
The service, already in use by Tufts Health Plan and Neighborhood Health Plan, enables doctors using a wireless handheld PDA to write and transmit prescriptions to pharmacies via the SureScripts network.
It allows two-way communication as well as providing patient co-pay information at the point of care. The prescriptions can also be written and managed through a ZixCorp secure web site using a standard browser. The service provides real-time access to formulary information, a drug reference guide, drug interaction and allergy checking, and patient-specific dispensed drug lists.
