Young adults grow wine-y

As the age of wine drinkers goes down, nation-wide wine consumption goes up. Smashed grapes are increasingly popular with the 21-30 age group, citing it as their alcoholic drink of choice. U.S. wine consumption increased 3.4 percent in 2006, according to the 2007 edition of the Adams Wine Handbook. In the same year, wine consumption rose to 283.1 million 9-liter cases.  Domestic wine sales went up 2.6 percent to 209.4 million cases and imported wines increased 5.7 percent to 73.6 million cases. Yellow Tail is the top imported wine in the U.S.
