WSC To Name Building For Noted Alumna
Worcester State College plans to name its newly renovated administration building after alumna, professor and administrator Helen G. Shaughnessy.
The board of trustees is expected to vote on the new name this evening. It also plans to name the building's theater for The George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation.
Shaughnessy was the president of the senior class of 1943. She went on to work as an elementary school teacher, elementary supervisor, WSC associate professor and administrator. She also served as a member of the college's foundation board and as a volunteer there.
Shaughnessy's classmates, students, friends and colleagues offered pledges and gifts of over $1.2 million for the naming opportunity.
The Fuller Foundation provided a $500,000 grant to renovate the theater in 2006.
