WRA begins lease discussions with restaurant, nightclub at Union Station

The Worcester Redevelopment Authority is moving forward with lease negotiations for the owner of the former Country Music Ranch & Saloon to operate a restaurant and nightclub in Union Station.

Owner William Broullon has investors lined up to help fund the build-out of the first-floor space off of the great hall vacant since 2017, which was formerly occupied by Byblos Lounge.

The city’s Chief Development Officer Michael Traynor said Union Station itself would be fully occupied if lease negotiations are successful.

The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The space will transition to a bar in the evenings.

“It’s a good use to serve commuters and people going to (Cannabis Control Commission) meetings,” he said.

Broullon could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday. It's unclear if the establishment's concept will resemble his former restaurant on James Street in Worcester.

According to WRA Chairman Vincent Pedone, the owner of Maxwell Silverman's Luciano's Restaurant, on the other side of the grand hall, has inquired about acquiring the entirety of the grand hall, but has not submitted a formal offer.

The restaurant is one of at least two other entities looking to lease space in Union Station or ground-level retail space in the station’s adjacent parking garage. Those other entities include an arcade bar and nanobrewery.

The state’s marijuana board Cannabis Control Commission is set to be the anchor tenant when it moves its headquarters to the building and begins a 10-year lease sometime in late 2019.
