WPI To Build $38M Dormitory

Worcester Polytechnic Institute will break ground next month on an 89,000-square-foot residence hall on Faraday Street, the college announced today.

The $38-million, 258-bed dorm will be WPI’s fourth LEED-certified building since 2007 and will be built by Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, the same Holyoke firm that is building a research facility in nearby Gateway Park. The new Gateway Park building is expected to open in September.

WPI said it expects the dorm to be an attractive option for life sciences students who take classes and do research in the 11-acre mixed-use park.

WPI has several other building projects underway, including a sports and recreation center and a parking garage that will feature the first rooftop athletic fields in Massachusetts.
