Worcester Polytechnic Institute is the fifth best value of any college in Massachusetts, according to a ranking weighing financial aid and graduates' average starting salary.
The typical WPI graduate earns $74,600, enough to put the school fifth on SmartAsset's annual ranking. It was behind only the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Babson College.
WPI's average amount of scholarship and grants per student is $22,276, going a long way toward offsetting part of the school's $50,530 price tag, according to SmartAsset. The rankings also included student living costs and retention rates.
The remainder of SmartAsset's top 10 for Massachusetts included Tufts University, Wellesley College, UMass Amherst, Boston College and UMass Lowell.
