Worcester Polytechnic Institute professor Aaron Sakulich has been named a member of the Council on Undergraduate Research, a Washington, D.C.-based group supporting student-faculty research.
Sakulich, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, is one of 24 councilors for the Council on Undergraduate Research, who rotate in three-year terms, WPI announced Friday.
The council has about 900 member colleges and universities.
Sakulich is also a co-director of the WPI Panama City Project Center, a program in which WPI students work with Panamanian partners on projects to find solutions and policies to address pressing social issues. One of last year's projects included creating a database of American expatriates in Panama.
Sakulich has already been involved with the council's Posters on the Hill project, including nominating students and reviewing applications for students looking to set up posters about their research efforts on Capitol Hill in Washington and speak with members of Congress about their work. He has also written an article for the council's journal.
Sakulich has advised WPI students on projects in Morocco and next year will be advising students in the college's Interactive Qualifying Project, a real-world education program, in Namibia.
